I love the DI-DI concept!! I will definitely be adopting this. It’s so helpful to have a mental mantra: do I need to discuss this or can I drop it and let it go.
I also think the concept of emotional energy is so important. For years (dare I say, decades) my voice was silenced, which caused anger to bubble up. I couldn’t understand why journaling wasn’t helping, until a very wise ministry coach explained how emotional energy needs somewhere to go. Mine needed activity. Like you’ve suggested, my go to has become a walk, or even a run. The exertion is helpful, but so is getting outside in nature.
Thank you for all of the wisdom shared in this piece! I am saving it for personal reference. Blessings to you, Susan (and Mike)!
Thanks so much for these encouraging words, Bethany! We're just thrilled it helped. And we also appreciate you sharing it.
That was my experience as a child as well... to the point that I became adept at emotional hoarding which turned into my default approach in the early years of our marriage. Thankfully, Mike helped me grow to adopt his DI-DI version of maintaining peace in relationships... which, needless to say, has been a lot more beneficial!
