A Lifeline of Hope
Sometimes life breaks us in ways we never saw coming through experiences involving grief, betrayal, trauma, or loss.
You didn’t choose the pain, but it still shaped your story... so much so that you wonder if healing is even possible.
But know this: God doesn’t throw away what’s broken. He draws near to those who are crushed in spirit, and He deals gently with those who have been wounded.
In one of Agatha Christie’s Poirot novels she has the eccentric detective saying to a hurting woman, “There is nothing in the world so damaged that it cannot be repaired by Almighty God. Without this certainty we should all of us be mad.”
For a believer, these words are not just poetic. In a world checkered with pain and loss and trauma, the truth behind this statement offers us a lifeline of hope based solidly in Scripture.
This hope serves as an anchor for the soul in difficult times. The Word tells us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
The Gospel does not shy away from the ravages of life—it assumes them. We are all damaged. We have all suffered loss. We have all failed.
Yet it is in these very realities that we see the redemptive nature of God: His power to heal what is broken, restore what is lost, and redeem even the most shattered lives.
Consider with me,
Beyond question, no day on this earth has compared to that April day when the Son of God hung from a Roman cross. This was the darkest moment in all of human history.
And yet, from this time of unspeakable injustice and tragedy and pain flows resurrection, reconciliation... redemption!
It is imperative that we cling tightly to the truth that “there is nothing in the world so damaged that it cannot be repaired by Almighty God.”
Why?
Well, there are several reasons. But one of the crucial reasons is the psychological connection.
When a person believes their wounds are beyond repair, the heart grows numb, the mind is assaulted with negativity and hopelessness, and despair sets in. It will soon manifest in depression, anxiety, addiction, even suicidal ideation.
Faith provides the framework to understand and believe that even when we are shattered... we are not abandoned.
In both soul and psyche, this certainty—that God is not only able but willing to heal—is what keeps us from madness.
Hope is not wishful thinking.
It is rooted in the character of a God who restores.
No trauma, no failure, no grief is too great.
If God raised Jesus from the dead, He can raise the wreckage of our lives into something beautiful. And that is a certainty we can live by... and heal by.
Psychologically, human beings need hope to survive trauma and loss. Despair, if not depression, grows where there is no belief in renewal.
Yet clinical research affirms that belief in a loving, powerful God can provide the meaning, strength, and safety net the mind needs to endure suffering without succumbing to it.
Faith becomes our anchor.
This certainty is not some naïve denial but a deep, stabilizing assurance that no matter how dark or fractured our story, God’s healing is possible.
Without such hope, the human psyche spirals. But with it, even the broken soul can rise again.
Remember, God does not discard broken things; He rebuilds them.
Blessings!
